"I think it's good that our guys got a long break this year.
It's just the way the schedule came together this year.
They don't often get to spend a long holiday break with their
families, and we will be going to a holiday tournament next year. They
came back hungry to get back on the ice," - Jim Roque.
- The Lakers, who are playing their first series since posting back-to-back ties at
Nebraska-Omaha on Dec. 7-8, are looking to snap a nine-game winless streak.
They are winless in 12 games against the Spartans, including last season's 3-2
overtime and 4-0 losses in East Lansing. MSU leads the all-time series on its
home ice, 33-11-3.
- SO F forward Nathan Perkovich scored a goal in both home games against
Michigan State on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. JR F Troy Schwab assisted on the Perkovich
goals and finished 0-3-3 for the series.
- Perkovich leads the Lakers in goals scored with 10, power-play goals with six
and points with 10-1-11. SR F Dan Eves is second on the team in points with
4-6-10, while Schwab (1-8-9) leads the Lakers in assists.
- This weekend's series is the first of three straight against nationally ranked
teams. The Lakers, who are 1-8-1 against teams receiving votes in the national
polls, follow their series at MSU with a home series against Bowling Green and
a road trip to Miami.
- Saturday's 5:05 p.m. game at MSU is the first of back-to-back Saturday matinees
for the Lakers. They also play a 5:05 p.m. game at home against BGSU on Jan.
12 in order to sponsor a post-game Skate with the Lakers.
