"We are very disappointed in ourselves; we need to get
back on track, and show that we are a winning team, and
play as a team. We need to show the effort that we care and want
to be a winning team, and then take our step from there. There are
no excuses for us losing these two games," - Senior captain Bryan
Lerg after losing to Michigan Tech and Providence at the Great Lakes
Invitational tournament.
- Michigan State, losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, fin-
ished fourth in the Great Lakes Invitational for just the third time in 35 all-time
appearances (1979, 1990). It marked just the 10th time that the Spartans had
not appeared in the final.
- MSU lost for the first time this season, against Providence, when netting the
first goal of the game. The Spartans are now 10-1-1 on the season when scoring
first and 9-1-1 when leading after the first period.
- MSU is 1-for-17 in its last four games on the power play (.059).
- SO D Justin Johnston's first-period assist against Providence was the first point
of his career, while FR F Dustin Gazley's first-period tally was his first goal since
Oct. 19 vs. Colgate. He had a two-goal game against the Raiders that night.
- SO D Michael Ratchuk's assist on JR F Nick Sucharski's third-period tally against
Providence moved him to 13 points on the season, surpassing his freshman
year point total. He had his fifth multiple-point game of the season and third
in the last month.
- JR F Justin Abdelkader, playing in his 100th career game had an assist on JR
F Tim Kennedy's goal against Michigan Tech.
