"That was really important. That might have been the
first time we got five this year. We don't score a lot and we don't
want to be playing from behind. To be able to get that, I think was
a big boost for us," - Walt Kyle on beating Sacred Heart, 5-2 in the
third-place game at the Denver Cup.
- NMU won the consolation game at the Wells Fargo Denver Cup with the 5-2 win
over Sacred Heart. In the first game the Wildcats were defeated by Dartmouth,
4-1. It was the first meeting against schools for NMU.
- The games in Denver were the 'Cats first two neutral-ice games of the season
and the five goals scored against Sacred Heart was a season high. NMU had
scored four goals in a game on four occasions this season.
- NMU recorded season highs for shots on goals in Denver. Friday night, the
'Cats registered 38 shots on goal and then on Saturday NMU had 44, which is
the most since 43 against BGSU on Feb. 27, 2004.
- FR F Mark Olver had a career-high three assists against Sacred Heart, which was
also his first three-point game. He also had an assist on Friday for four assists for
the weekend. He currently has a two-game assist and point streak (0-4-4).
- FR F Erik Spady's power-play goal at 13:38 of the second period against Sacred
Heart was his first career and game-winning goal.
- FR F Phil Fox had half of the goals in Denver with three of the six. He had
two against Sacred Heart. He went 3-1-4 over the two games in Denver for a
two-game goal and point streak.
