The Irish saw their nine-game winning streak snapped on Dec.
29 by Massachusetts at the Lightning College Hockey Classic. The streak was the
longest in the nation at the time and the longest for Notre Dame as either a member
of the WCHA or the CCHA. The streak was the longest for the Irish since winning
14 straight from 12/11/87 to 2/13/88 while playing as a Division I Independent.
- The 4-3 loss to Massachusetts was the first one-goal loss for the Irish this season
as they had won their first six one-goal games.
- Notre Dame's penalty killers had a rough weekend at the Lightning College
Hockey Classic, giving up four power-play goals in 12 chances. The Irish gave up
three power-play goals in the 4-3 loss to Massachusetts, the first time the Irish
gave up three power-play tallies in a game since Dec. 17, 2005, a 4-0 loss at the
Joyce Center to Lake Superior State. ND came into the tournament having given
up just seven power-play goals in its first 20 games.
- The Irish finished third in the Lightning College Classic, their second third-place finish
this season after beating R.P.I., 3-1 in the third-place game. In 30 in-season tournaments
in their history, the Irish have now finished third on seven occasions. JR F Erik Condra
(2-1-3, +3) and JR D Luke Lucyk (1-0-1, +2) were named to the all-tournament team.
- Notre Dame's final 16 games of the 2007-08 regular season will come against
CCHA teams. The Irish will play seven at home, eight on the road and one home
game at a neutral site (Jan. 19 vs. Michigan at the Palace of Auburn Hills).
- With a loss to #9 Massachusetts (4-3) and a win over #17 RPI (3-1), Notre
Dame's record against ranked teams this season is now 3-4-0.
- Lucyk scored his first goal of the season for the Irish in the loss to UMass. The goal
was his first since Feb. 4, 2005 as a freshman when he scored against UNO. The goal
snapped a span of 22 games without a goal and was the second of his career.
